Thought of the day: Positive climates are important!

"Go where ur celebrated, not tolerated.. Where ur Adored & not ignored!"  was what Rev Run tweeted earlier today.  When I read that on my twitter this afternoon, it made me think of a few situations where this applied.

There have been a few times in my life, where I left or have wanted to leave environments where I didn't feel supported.  Why would you put effort into something if you are not appreciated and are generally ignored?

For example, there was one time someone went to this small group at a church three times before any one came up to them and the people they went up to did not really show an interest in them.  I mean it is hard enough showing up to a new group, but if the group is not friendly or inviting why would you want to be a part of it?  There are other small groups out there that are excited to welcome new people.

Additionally, as an athlete, I have also found that it is hard to join a new team, as coaches and teammates do not know you and may ignore you or tolerate you until you have proven yourself.  I know of some teams where the coaches and varsity athletes do not speak to the novices.   How is that a welcoming environment for the athletes to be part of?  I still do not understand why they would do that.   The focus of the team is only put on athletes who have proven themselves and won medals.  I think that it is important to value every member of your team regardless of their status and ability.  One of the best coaches I have ever had really took the time and effort to get to know their new members of the team and made sure they were properly incorporated into the team.  I know some people who are very talented athletes but left the sport because they were treated poorly by coaches or had a bad experience on the team.

I must note that people can be ignored and tolerated with their family and friends as well.  With extended family and friends it is harder;  I have heard of many situations where jealousy and other issues can cause a person to be treated unfairly.  You have to stand up to them too and let them know you do not have to tolerate their actions.

Positive climates in social settings are important to an individual's growth and development.  It is hard to leave or change a bad environment but something needs to be done before the environment takes it's toll on you (i.e. your self-worth is damaged).

What would you have done in either situation if you felt ignored?  What would you do if you were on a team or in a social group where this happened? Sometimes, you can't leave so how can you change the focus of the team or group? How would you persist in the given circumstances?

Therefore, "Go where ur celebrated, not tolerated.. Where ur Adored & not ignored!"  Go find people to be around that love you and value your presence in their life.

Those are my thoughts of the day! Hope you all had a great weekend.
