This New Year, be SMART with your goals!

Happy New Year!!!! Welcome to 2012

I hope you all had a wonderful time of renewal, celebrating with your family and friends.

For my part, I had a really great time but must confess that the holidays went by far too quickly.  It is a week-and-a-half of hanging out with family and friends and eating way too much.  It is hard to see everyone, and I missed seeing some close friends this holiday.  However, I had a lot of fun over the holidays and made plans for the new year.

One of my plans for 2012 is to turn my visions (see vision board) into reality.  Many people set goals for the new year but fail to find a way to act out those goals.  For example, I had this conversation with a guy friend of mine a couple days ago about him wanting to find a girlfriend this year.  I told him it was a great idea, but I was unclear as to how he was going to act on that goal.  He had the idea but lacked the tools for implementing the goal in his life.

You probably heard many of these resolutions from people last night:

    • I'm going to lose weight
    • I'm going to get healthy
    • I'm going to make more money
    • I'm going to get more active
    • I'm going to jumpstart my career
    • I'm going to write a book
    • I'm going to find a wonderful partner
    • I'm going to be a better athlete, student, etc... .

These are all good goals to set, but the more important part is to determine how are you going to achieve these goals.  All the examples I listed above are general goals.  I'm interested in HOW you are going to achieve these important goals in your life.

"A Goal without a Plan is just a WISH" -  Antoine de Saint Exupery

Therefore, we need to set SMART Goals.

S - Specific

M - Measurable

A- Attainable

R - Relevant

T - Time-Bound

There is always hard work involved when you really want something.   I'm going to work on changing my New Year's Resolutions (personal, professional, fitness, and health) into SMART Goals and then share them with you tomorrow.  Like I said, I'm excited about turning my vision into reality. I learned from a good friend that a big job has to be broken down into small parts.  She helped me organize my room into a masterpiece :)

What are some of your goals/resolutions for this year???  Are they SMART Goals???

Happy 2012!  Wishing this year is all that you want it to be!
